Riding in NYC is unlike any other city we’ve ever ridden in. We're used to Toronto traffic, we've experienced the Cape Town rush hour craze but there is a next-level intensity to the traffic in New York. To get anywhere safely our riding pace and alertness needed to quickly adapt to the intense pace of the city. That being said, we found it unbelievably fun & exciting and loved riding in the energetic city.
Lane splitting is illegal, but everyone does it - otherwise you’re sitting & cooking in traffic with everyone else (suckers!). By bike, everything is 20-30mins away from one another but by car you can double that. While riding, you’ve gotta be completely engaged - avoiding potholes, predicting the moves of the cars cutting you off or randomly stopping in front of you. On top of this, you're also soaking in the beautifully complex landscape of the concrete, metal & brick city.
We loved the vibe of the city & its intensity and we are definitely stoked to head back for more. Stay tuned for more NYC adventure stuff coming soon.
